7 dates, storylines to watch with 2022-23 Magic schedule – Reading Eagle

Orlando Magic will be open the 2022-23 regular season against the Detroit Pistons. on Oct. 19, and their first home game will be against the Boston Celtics on Oct. 22 at the Amway Center after the NBA released the full schedule Wednesday afternoon.

The Magic will play six of their first eight games on the road and have their longest home stretch from early to mid-November before playing a balanced schedule the rest of the way.

Orlando opens training camp Sept. 27 at its new AdventHealth Training Center.

Magic Ticket Plans, Suites and Single Game Tickets go on sale at 1pm on August 26th. The Fast Break Monthly Pass, which was introduced last season, will return for 2022-23. It includes up to five games each month for $49. Learn more at OrlandoMagic.com/FastBreak. More information on pre-sale access can be found at OrlandoMagic.com or by phone at 407-89-MAGIK.

Here are seven highlights from the schedule:

Opener against pistons

Paolo Bunchero, the No. 1 pick in June’s NBA draft, will make his Magic debut when they open their season at the Pistons.

It will be a matchup between not only the NBA’s latest pair of top picks (Banchero and Montverde Academy graduate Cade Cunningham), but two teams in similar stages of rebuilding, which will be a good early season test for both teams.

Magic-Hawks rivalry?

Bunchera and Dejounte Murray, who were traded by the Atlanta Hawks in June, won’t have to wait long to play with each other again after they sparred on social media after playing in the pros this summer.

Orlando’s Oct. 21 game against the Hawks at State Farm Arena will mark the second time in franchise history that the Magic have opened the season with back-to-back road games.

The first match against the champions of the East

The Magic will play their first home game against the defending Eastern Conference champion Celtics, who lost to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.

The Celtics have won their last nine games against Orlando in 2019-20.

Return to national television

The Magic’s only game scheduled for major national television is Nov. 1 when they play the Oklahoma City Thunder, who drafted Chet Holmgren with the second overall pick.

The match will be broadcast on TNT. It is the only non-NBA Magic game to be nationally televised. They have three games scheduled to be televised on NBA TV.

Orlando, which had no games on ESPN, ABC or TNT last season, is one of four teams (Utah Jazz, Pistons and Thunder) not scheduled to have an ESPN or ABC game.

Matchup vs. Smith, Houston

The Magic will play the Houston Rockets and No. 3 overall pick Jabari Smith for the first time on Nov. 7 at the Amway Center.

Most media predicted the Magic were going to draft Smith with the top pick before selecting Buncher.

The longest house

The Magic will play a seven-game homestand for the season from November 3-16, facing the Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Charlotte Hornets and ” Minnesota Timberwolves.”

They will also have five matches between December 5 and 14.

The longest car journeys

The Magic will travel to the West Coast from January 7-15 for a five-game season. They also have three four-game road trips — Dec. 16-21, Jan. 30-Feb. March 5 and 14-19. The first and second rounds of the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament will be played at the Amway Center on March 16 and 18.

Schedule (All times are Eastern, home games are in bold)

All Magic games on local television will be broadcast exclusively on Bally Sports Florida. The games can also be heard on the Orlando Magic Radio Network (FM 96.9 The Game).
