The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins used a pair of goals late in regulation to defeat the Lehigh Valley Phantoms 3-1 on Friday night at the PPL Center.

Tyler Sikura and Corey Andanowski scored in the final three minutes of regulation to extend Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s winning streak to five games. The Penguins are now 5-0-1-0 on the season.

Lehigh Valley scored its first goal of the night late in the first period. Max Willman took advantage of the turnover, drove to the net and pushed the puck over the line with 1:46 left.

Valtteri Puustinen pulled the Penguins even with a power play goal at 14:06 of the second stanza. Phantoms goalie Sam Ersson made a pair of saves for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, but the second rebound went to Puustinen, who lit the lamp for the third straight game.

The game was tied 1-1 entering the home stretch of the third period. Andanowski then forced the Phantoms to commit an errant cruiser that led to Phillip Hollander feeding Sikura one-time. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton took a 2-1 lead with 2:33 to go.

A minute later, Andonovsky went for a breakaway and beat Erson through five holes to put the game on ice.

Dustin Takarski made 22 saves for the Penguins, while Ersson stopped 32 shots in the loss.

The Penguins will take to the ice again on Saturday for a road game against Hershey. The puck between the Penguins and the Bears will take place at 7:00 PM at the Giant Center.
