NORRISTOWN — An Upper Dublin man faces time behind bars for illegal drug activity after authorities found controlled substances in his home, including a recreational drug known as Molly or Ecstasy.

Donte A. Murphy, 27, of the 400 block of Summit Avenue, was sentenced by a Montgomery County judge to 11 1/2 to 23 months in the county jail after pleading guilty to possession with intent to deliver methylenedioxymethamphetamine, or MDMA, and possession of paraphernalia for drug use in connection with an incident in November 2020. According to court documents, MDMA, a synthetic mood-altering drug commonly known among users as “Molly” or “Ecstasy.”

Judge Wendy G. Rothstein, who accepted the plea agreement in the case, ordered Murphy to report to the Lower Providence County Jail on Jan. 2, 2023, to begin serving his sentence.

The judge also ordered Murphy to serve three years of post-parole probation, meaning Murphy will be under court supervision for about five years.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Upper Dublin Detective Michael B. Lebby, on November 13, 2020, city police, along with members of the Montgomery County Narcotics Task Force, executed a search warrant at the Summit Avenue home where Murphy lived. cellar Murphy was in bed at the time of the 6:33 a.m. search.

A search of Murphy’s residence revealed the following: approximately four pounds of suspected marijuana; one ounce of suspected cocaine; one ounce of suspected MDMA; Xanax bars; suspicion of LSD; a large number of psilocybin mushrooms; a large amount of packaging materials; several digital scales; and inositol, “a cutting agent commonly used by drug traffickers to cut cocaine in order to increase” the product, according to the criminal complaint.

Authorities also seized $398 in cash.

“Based on the quantity of drugs, the manner in which they were packaged, the presence of cutting agents, packaging material, several digital scales, and US currency, I believe that the drugs in possession of Donte A. Murphy … were all possessed with the intent to deliver said drugs,” – claimed Lebi in the arrest affidavit.

Other charges of possession with intent to deliver cocaine, marijuana, Xanax, LSD and psilocybin mushrooms were dropped from Murphy as part of a plea deal.
