Banana Boat sunscreen recalled due to benzene

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A popular sunscreen for skin cancer prevention may itself pose a cancer risk.

Banana Boat’s hair and scalp sunscreen has been recalled after tests revealed trace levels of the carcinogen benzene.

Edgewell Personal Care Company, which makes the sunscreen, says the recall covers three batches of their SPF 30 spray.

The affected batches of sunscreen have an expiration date of December 2022, February 2023 or April 2024.

The recall did not affect any other batches of the hair and scalp sunscreen before or after the stated expiration dates.

Edgewell asks sellers and consumers to dispose of the product and contact them for a refund.
