Gabriel Slonina will soon get a new home.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chicago Fire have agreed to transfer Gabriel Slonina to Chelsea for $15 million, including additional services:
To conclude the deal, 18-year-old Slonina must undergo a medical examination. Once confirmed, he will remain with Chicago until the end of the season before officially moving to London on January 1, 2023, when the English Premier League’s winter transfer window opens.
He kept 14 clean sheets in 34 league appearances and was the Flames’ best goalkeeper last season as a 17-year-old. Slonina became the youngest goalkeeper in the history of the league when he made his professional debut last August and will now need to develop under Chelsea’s leadership.
The Blues currently have four goalkeepers in their squad, mainly Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga, although Romano on Saturday reported the former could go on loan, which could open up more reps for Slonin.
Slonina is also a part of the USMNT youth teams, playing for the under-15, under-16, under-17 and under-20 teams. He has not played for the senior national team yet, but this could be the first step towards her exit.
Earlier in the transfer window “Real Madrid”. according to reports was one of the teams that wanted the Ivorians, but it now looks like he will be heading to England rather than Spain.
