Civitas Lancaster Chicken Barbecue returns to Longs Park today, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The 69th annual chicken skewer, which was recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the largest one-day chicken skewer event, returned to its traditional third Saturday in May in Longa Park after being moved to 2020 and moved to October. date in 2021. The event is sponsored by the nonprofit Leola Blessings of Hope food distribution center.

Civitas Lancaster is the successor to the Sertoma Club, which used to cook chicken barbecue.

Volunteers prepared more than 15,000 chicken dinners to serve them on the day of the event. This year’s barbecue also includes craft beer, which is available at the Civitas / Wacker Brewing Company beer garden. Catering and takeaway options are available during the event, and pickup lines have been doubled to speed up service at the event, which regularly draws thousands of cars to Longs Park.
