Clevinger, 2 Relievers lead Padres ab Phyllis 3-0 | Sports

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Mike Clevinger threw the ball with one hit in five innings on the result and combined with two lions led the San Diego Padres to a 3-0 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night.

Clevinger (1-0) won for the first time in three starts this season. He missed last season in rehab after Tommy John’s surgery. The right-hander dropped five innings for the first time this year, crossing out five and missing no more than 75 pitches.

Mackenzie Gore scored four in three innings without points, and Taylor Rogers made the ninth, making the 14th save when the Padres moved 10 games over 0.500 (23-13).

Zach Eflin (1-3) nearly equaled Clevinger with five innings in six innings. He refused to run in the fifth on the force out.

Robinson Kano, who singled out Eflin in the fifth for his first hit with the Padres, put up a single from the left in the seventh that Kyle Schwarber missed under the glove for a mistake. Will Myers, who led the half with James Norwood, scored 2-0. Trent Grisham added an RBI double that killed Kano.

Eflin made his first start on May 1 after being activated from the list of victims related to COVID-19.

Phyllis returned home from a 5-2 trip without MVP NL Bryce Harper in the lineup. Harper may miss at least one more game if cured after injecting platelet-rich plasma into his right elbow.

Clevinger, who also started this season on the list of injured with a dislocation of the right knee, was retrieved from Cleveland during the trading period during the reduction of the pandemic of the 2020 season. He came out of the last start of the regular season, getting what was later described as an elbow blow, and missed Pdres ’victory in a series of wild cards against St. Louis.

Clevinger returned to the start of the NL Division series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but was removed in the second inning after his speed dropped sharply. The earthquakes were swept away by the Dodgers. Later that fall, he underwent surgery on Tommy John.

He won 13 games in 2018 and again in 2019. But, having missed the season, Clevinger said he wasn’t sure he would perform again.

Clevinger seems to be back in shape – and ready to help the Podres make their way to the NL West.
