According to a township official, Copart Inc. withdrew its zoning application in Washington.

Township Manager Rich Sichler said Reading Eagle on Friday that Copart withdrew its application to the Washington City Hearings Commission to acquire the property, which included a 1/3-mile dirt racetrack outside Bechtelsville.

Sihler also said Copart dropped its current appeal to the council, which was based on the company’s second zoning application. The application was denied earlier this month, Siechler said Reading Eagle on Wednesday.

Copart representatives could not be reached for comment. The Rogers family, owners of Grandview Speedway, could not be reached for comment.

Events occur literally every other day after Grandview Speedway announced it will open its 61st season of racing in 2023. The opening date of the season has not been announced.

The future of Grandview was has been uncertain since late August, when it was announced that the Rogers family had agreed in principle to sell the 20-acre property Copart for an undisclosed amount.

Copart, which specializes in the resale and remarketing of used, wholesale and salvage vehicles for a variety of retailers, according to its website, had plans to build an auto auction and storage facility on the site, according to city officials. His the first zoning application was denied by the board in September.

Among other speedway-related events, the Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek series will return to Grandview in 2023.

The track will host the Thunder on the Hill Racing Series’ Hodnett Cup on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, it was announced via Facebook on Friday.

Thunder on the Hill Racing Series promoter Bob Miller declined to comment further.

Grandview’s the biggest race in yearsthe event attracted NASCAR drivers such as Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Tony Stewart, Rico Abreu and Casey Kahn. Abreu won this year’s edition of the racewhile Larson, the reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion, won four times between 2017 and 2021.

Grandview will be part of the Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek Series for the 29th consecutive year in 2023. Speedweek features 410 winged sprint cars on dirt tracks in Pennsylvania and Maryland. The full 2023 schedule for the 33rd annual PA Speedweek Series has yet to be announced.

Brent Marks won his first career series championship in 2022. Marks won five of the nine races.
