Date, host and nominations – NBC10 Philadelphia

Are you ready for football? OK, but here’s why the NFL is coming back 2022 Emmy Awards were moved from their usual Sunday slot to their Monday slot.

The top televised awards are between the top four networks, and this year’s home telecast of NBC has reserved the second Sunday night in September for Tampa Bay vs. Dallas. After the Emmys went through two years of ceremonies curtailed by the pandemic, a one-day delay seems like a minor annoyance.

The industry is expected to bring out its best on Monday, walk the red carpet and celebrate itself and the show’s wealth through streaming services, cable and, to an extent that pales in comparison to years past, old-school network fare.

But what’s a Hollywood awards show without a TV audience? Disappointment with a low rating, and that’s where you come in. If you decide to contribute and tune in, here’s a road map of everything you need to know about the 2022 Emmys.

On Sunday, September 19, host Cedric hosted the 73rd Emmy Awards.

WHEN ARE THE 2022 EMMMYS?

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Monday, September 12 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The approximately three-hour ceremony will begin at 8:00 PM EDT and will be broadcast live on NBC and, for free, on the Peacock streaming service.

But the Emmys, with a total of 118 awards, are not a one-day affair. Winners in 25 key categories, including Best Drama and Comedy Series, will be announced during the broadcast ceremony, with the remainder split between September 3 and 4, 2018. An edited version of the weekend ceremonies, with categories including sound editing and cinematography, will air at 8:00 PM EDT on September 10 on FXX.

WHO WILL HOST THE EMMY CEREMONY?

The honor usually goes to a comedian with a link to the network that carries the event, and NBC stayed the course by selecting “Saturday Night Live” veteran Kenan Thompson, a first-time Emmy host who has served as host several times before. “SNL” stars. The ceremony tried to go without a host, the last time in 2019, but the results were not always pretty. Or entertaining.

WHICH SHOWS ARE NOMINATED FOR TOP EMMY AWARDS?

Some previous winners are back in the running for best series, including “Ted Lasso,” the freshman that won 2021’s best comedy series, and “Continuity,” which won 2020’s best drama. (The series did not air in 2021, when The Crown won.)

There are also formidable newcomers, including the dystopian drama The Squid Game and the comedy crime thriller Only Murder In The Building.

Nominated actors hoping to repeat as winners include Ted Lasso’s Jason Sudeikis, Hacked’s Gene Smart and Euphoria’s Zendaya. Check out the full list of Emmy nominees.

WHAT WERE AMY’S WEIRDEST NODS?

So many, where to start? The farewell season of This Is Us received one nomination for original score and lyrics after winning Emmys for several cast members in previous years. A similar case was last year with “black-ish”, which ended its groundbreaking series with only two creative nominations. On the other hand, it was far from a slam dunk that Dave Chappelle’s The Closer, with its controversial anti-transgender comments, received a special nomination in the Best Variety category. That’s how it turned out.

WHO DECIDES THE EMMY WINNERS?

The Academy’s more than 17,000 voting members have the power to determine nominees and winners in 14 categories, including drama, comedy and limited series. Acting awards, including lead, supporting and guest actors, are determined by peer groups, as are directing, writing and other individual achievements. The number of nominees in most categories usually depends on the number of entries, with the exception of top comedy and drama series, which receive eight nominees each.
