A revelation released Monday by Broward County forensic experts called the cause of Haskins’ death “numerous blunt force injuries” and the manner of death an “accident.”
24-year-old Pittsburgh Steelers defender Dwayne Haskins died Saturday when he was hit by a car in South Florida. Christian Benavides of NBC 6 has a story.
The autopsy said the female companion was in the car with Haskins when they ran out of gas on the I-595 side. He went on foot to go find a gas station, an autopsy said.
Huskins Calabria’s wife was heard explaining the situation to a 911 service operator in a call released last month.

Calaibra Haskins explains to the operator that she called from Pittsburgh and talked to her husband when his phone blurred.
“I just want someone to go to the area and see if his car is there, if everything is OK, or if something happened to him,” she asks the operator. “It’s not like he didn’t call me back and his phone burned down and he was left alone.”
Officials released 911 panic calls from witnesses the day NFL defender Dwayne Haskins came out in the middle of I-595 and was hit by a vehicle. This was reported by Ryan Nelson of NBC 6
“I don’t want you to panic, but I’ll be honest with you, we did have an accident on the highway, but I can’t confirm whether it’s your husband or not,” says operator 911.
Haskins reportedly witnessed cars waving over the shoulder of an I-595 when it was hit by a truck and SUV, the autopsy said.
The female companion remained in the car until the HLC military found her, and the report said FHP officials did not disclose the nature of Haskins’ relationship with the woman.
An Steelers official told investigators that Haskins had been training with teammates all day and they had gone to lunch.
After lunch, Haskins went to a club with his friend or cousin, where he “drank heavily,” the autopsy said.
At one point, Haskins and a friend or cousin quarreled and broke up, the report said.
According to a toxicology report from the autopsy, two tests showed Haskins’ blood alcohol levels at 0.20 and 0.24, well above the legal level in Florida, which is 0.08.
