First Round Pairs of District 11 Baseball and Softball Tournament Published – Morning Call

Unfinished business.

That’s how baseball teams like Emmaus and Southern Lehigh felt, even after winning the league championship on Thursday night.

The same goes for Parkland and Bangor, recently crowned softball champions in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and the Colonial League.

The victory in the league championship was exciting for those who won gold. The Slaters softball team even received its first escort in Bangor on Thursday. Parkland and South Leahy were able to win league gold for the first time in years. Then there was the Emmaus baseball team, which played deep into the University of Desales ’night to survive Nazareth in the classic 10-half EPC main game.

But even as these teams left the championship celebrations, their coaches turned the page and made a schedule of exercises or skirmishes to prepare for the District 11 tournament.

This is a busy week. Between baseball and softball every day until Sunday games are scheduled. Remembrance Day is a planned weekend, at least for now.

Weiland University DeSales Park will be used for the semifinals and finals in grades 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A.

The Patriots Park in Allentown and Blue Mountain are expected to be used for softball title games.

In baseball the final seed in Class 6A could not be determined until Northampton played with Hamburg on Saturday morning. K-Kids won with the score 7-0.

The PIAA tournament will begin on June 6 in both sports.

In baseball, District 11 will qualify for two teams in States 6A and 4A. One team will advance in other classes, and the 3A champion will participate in the regional with the 1st district.

In softball, District 11 will receive two teams in 6A and one each in 5A, 4A and 1A. Representatives 3A and 2A will play regionally with District 1.

In softball, the defending champions are Northampton (6A), Pocona Mountain East (5A), Bethlehem Catholic (4A), Palmerton (3A), Williams Valley (2A) and Three Valley (1A).

In baseball, the defending champions are Emmaus (6A), South Leahy (5A), Bethlehem Catholic (4A), Polisades (3A), Schuylkil Haven (2A) and Three Valley (1A).
