It has been 21 years since the Hampfield Sallards graduate sailed for the United States at the Sydney Olympics, where he placed sixth in the 200-meter breaststroke.

His time of 2: 13.27 was less than a second after the silver medalist touched the wall.

In Hampfield, Sallards was a four-year-old letter winner who won 10 gold medals at the PIAA Championships. In 1997, he was recognized as an outstanding swimmer at the National Assembly.

He has won eight individual district championships and three gold medals in relays. In the counties, he won a gold medal three times in the 200-yard IM, each time setting a new state record. And he won gold in the 500-yard freestyle and three times won a medal in the 100-breaststroke.

He also broke 10 records at the All-American High School Meeting.

The Sallards won the 200-meter breaststroke at the 2003 Pan-Am Games, finishing 2: 13.37, a record for the competition at the time.

At the University of Georgia, he won the NCAA title in 2004 and was previously a two-time SEC champion. leaves swimming competitions in 2004.

Sallard was inducted into the Sasquehanna Valley branch of the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame in 2013.
