Indiana County COVID-19 Report
Indiana County saw an increase of 156 new cases between August 18 and August 24. On average for seven days – 22 cases per day. Across the state, 20,164 cases have been reported.
The Ministry of Health reported 4 hospitalized patients with COVID on August 24, none of them in intensive care. There were no deaths in the county, keeping the total at 372.
Sewage monitoring between August 7 and 13 shows a decrease in the number of COVID-19.
The CDC said on August 18 that the level of risk to the community in Indiana County remains moderate.
The CDC’s recommendations for those at moderate risk are to stay up-to-date on the COVID-19 vaccines and get tested if you have symptoms.
If you are at high risk of serious illness, talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to wear a mask or take other precautions. People with symptoms, a positive test, or contact with someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask. People can choose a mask at any time.
Indiana County continues to have one of the lowest vaccination rates in the state, ranking 58th out of 67 counties; 50.9 percent of the eligible population received at least one dose of the vaccine, with 37,585 or 44.7 percent of the population fully vaccinated and 5,204 partially vaccinated.
Since August 13, 2021, there have been 35 first boosters for a total of 19,354 and 57 second boosters for a total of 4,152 since March 29, 2022.
The county ranks worst in younger age groups, with 80.2 percent of people ages 5-19 unvaccinated.
Indiana County ranks 45th out of 67 counties for 5- to 9-year-olds with 12.2 percent vaccinated; 49 out of 67 districts for children aged 10 to 14 – 21.2 percent; 63 out of 67 aged 15 to 19 with 23.3 percent vaccinated; and 64 out of 67 aged 20 to 24 with 29.5 percent vaccinated.
Figures for young people in recent weeks show that 11 vaccinations were given to people between the ages of 5 and 19.
Three measures were introduced last week for people aged 20 to 24.
Vaccinations for ages 0 to 4 are currently being reported, with four vaccinations given last week for a total of 63.
