It is reported that the landslide closes West Freedom Avenue

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A landslide is reported to have closed down Freedom Avenue, and public safety is asking people to avoid the area.

The port administration said the landslide and the trees that fell on West Liberty Avenue and Brookside are affecting maintenance. The closure also bypasses the red line bus route.

Citing “dangerous conditions”, the Pittsburgh Public Security Service asked people to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

West Avenue of Freedom is closed from Cape May to Pioneer Avenue, public safety said. Brookside Avenue is also closed from Princess to West Liberty. Drivers can still get to Pioneer from the Freedom Tunnel.

Public safety has not said how long it may take to reopen West Liberty.

For bus routes affected by the closure, the port management writes on twitter updates and detours.

The landslide is reported to occur after hours of heavy rain. So far this month we have seen 2.87 inches of rain.
