John Farnham had part of his jaw removed during cancer surgery | Celebrities

John Farnham had part of his jaw removed while undergoing treatment for oral cancer.

The 73-year-old singer, who has been married to Jillian Billman since 1973 and has sons Rob and James with her, was recently diagnosed with a tumor that turned out to be cancerous and underwent a 12-hour operation, but is now in a “stable condition” after having the tumor removed.

In a statement on Tuesday (23/08/22), his family said: “John underwent an eleven-and-a-half-hour operation in Melbourne yesterday and is now in a stable condition in intensive care. The cancer was located in his mouth and it was successfully removed.t gone. We have a long road of recovery and treatment ahead of us, but we know John will be up to the task. We are in awe of the incredible teams of medical professionals who have guided us through this most challenging time with such compassion.

“To all the surgeons, doctors, nurses and consultants – a big thank you to everyone.”

Following the announcement, Seven Network Entertainment reporter Peter Ford explained that the “You’re the Voice” hitmaker had to undergo two different operations following his diagnosis.

Speaking on The Morning Show, he said: “The first thing was to remove the tumor from his mouth. Once that was done, the reconstructive team came in to take over and there was reconstructive surgery because part of John’s jaw had to be removed remotely as part of the solution to this problem.’

Before the operation, John himself noted that “countless others” had gone through the same ordeal and that he was “grateful” for Australian health care.

He said: “Being diagnosed with cancer is something that so many people face every day and countless others have been through this journey before me. The one thing I know for sure is that we have the best healthcare professionals in Victoria health, and we can all be thankful for that. I know I am.”
