Joni Mitchell hopes to record music again after ‘losing confidence’ | Entertainment news

Joni Mitchell’s ex-husband Larry Klein says the veteran singer is hoping to get back into the studio to record new music.
The 78-year-old singer suffered a brain aneurysm in 2015 that left her unable to speak or walk for a while, but she returned to the stage last month for her first full-length performance since 2000 at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode- Island – and her ex-wife Larry says she really wanted to get back into music.
He told Mojo magazine: “She’s been trying to get all kinds of things back and she’s wanted to sing again, she just hasn’t gotten to the point where she’s got the confidence to go into the studio.”
When asked if Joni would ever record new music, he said: “I wouldn’t be surprised (if she records new music). She is hardworking.
“She’s working on getting her ability to play the guitar back, and that means she’s going to start experimenting, and who knows what’s going to happen?”
Larry was a session guitarist who met Joni while working on her 1982 record Wild Things Run Fast, and they struck up a romance during their time together and married later in the year.
They broke up during the recording of the singer’s 1984 album Turbulent Indigo, but continued to work together after the divorce.
After Joni returned to the festival in July, she said it was the first time she felt nervous before performing.
Speaking to CBS News after the show, she said, “I’ve never been nervous in front of an audience, but I wanted to be good and I wasn’t sure I could. But I didn’t sound too bad tonight. “I think facing death like that makes people softer for me.”
Joni relearned how to play the guitar by watching online tutorials.
She said: “I’m learning. I’m watching videos on the net to see where I put my fingers. It’s amazing how an aneurysm pops – how to get out of a chair, you don’t know how to get out of bed…
Returning almost to childhood. It is necessary to relearn everything. “
