Kenan Thompson could understand that Saturday Night Live was coming to an end after 50 seasons.

Show creator Lorne Michaels has suggested that the program could end after its 50th anniversary in 2025, and Kennan is open to the idea.

Kenan said during an appearance on Hell of a Week: “Is this a rumour? Okay, well, I need to start planning.

“These rumors may have a lot of basis because 50 is a good number to stop at. It’s an incredible package.”

Kenan, who has been on the comedy show since 2003 and is the longest-serving cast member in the program’s history, believes there will be no point in continuing if Michaels is no longer involved.

He said: “He is the one who touched this whole thing. This opens up the possibility for a lot of bitches to come into the game because he is such a legend that he keeps away from these corporate wolves. “

Thompson revealed that he could understand if NBC cut the program’s budget if the creator decided to leave.

The comic said, “You can’t do the same show at this point.

“They spend a lot of money on this show every week. It’s an expensive show, but it’s one of a kind. This is the only one. You know, ‘Live from New York’.’

Kenan has previously hinted that he would like to stay with the program through its 50th season following the departures of stars such as Pete Davidson and Kate McKinnon.

Asked if he planned to leave, he said: “I mean, I don’t know.

“I know we’re at least trying to get to 50 because it’s going to be a special year, you know what I mean? And after that, I don’t know exactly how long I will be able to do it.”
