King Charles’ former butler believes he would make a “good” monarch.

The 73-year-old royal took over the throne earlier this month following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, and while his former staffer Grant Harrold believes Charles will make a great leader, he warned there will be “difficult” times ahead because the queen was so loved all over the world.

Grant said: “He’s an amazing person. He’s like his mother. He’s funny, he’s witty, he’s about tradition.

“… I think personally he will be a good king because I have seen what he is like as a person.

“The problem with him is that everyone loved the Queen, even if you didn’t like the monarchy, everyone loves the Queen. I think he’s got some pretty tough years ahead of him, people are watching what he’s doing, how he’s doing it, the changes he’s making.”

And while Grant believes Queen Consort Camilla will also come under scrutiny, he doesn’t think there could be anyone better next to the King.

He said: “She’s a wonderful woman. She’s a very nice woman, she’s a hard worker, she’s also family-oriented. I think it’s going to be hard to do, but I think she’ll do it well.

“She’s really good with him. They’re a team. They’re an absolute team. They’re best friends.”

A former staff member dismissed “sad” rumors about Charles, such as his insistence on having his toilet seat used everywhere and having someone iron his shoelaces.

He told Entertainment Tonight: “Somebody said to me, ‘Oh, you had to carry a toilet seat with you?’ And I said, “What’s the toilet seat?” I have never heard of it.’

“Why do you even iron shoelaces? It doesn’t even make sense.

“This is completely made up and I don’t know where these comments are coming from. I don’t know why they say them. I don’t know what they’re trying to do with this because it’s just stupid. It’s just sad that people want to kind of [focus on] things like that.”
