KENNETT SQUARE — Brownie Girl Scout Troop 41293 from New Garden, Greenwood and Bancroft elementary schools, recently completed their community service project. The girls created 15 “Birthday in a Box” kits to donate to KACS (Canet Community Service). “Birthday in a box” contained all the materials needed by parents to celebrate their child – a mixture of cakes, icing, cake tins, candles, plates, napkins, balloons, banner, etc. The girls bought items at Walmart, and everyone packed in a box. For the army boxes recycled cases with cookies for girls scouts. It was an interesting way to celebrate the 110th anniversary of the Scouts.
The squad also donated 149 pounds of other food items that were purchased by the military and graciously donated from the girls ’families. KACS was very excited about getting a “birthday in a box” and food donations. They were confident that the parents they serve would be happy to receive one for each of their children.
Christa Evans, head of the Scout Squad, noted that “the girls in the squad enjoyed shopping and packing boxes. Many wanted to make more than one box. Their enthusiasm will be carried over to next year when they plan to take up the activity again; adding more opportunities to learn about budgeting, goal setting for donations, in addition to improving cookie sales skills and deepening ties with KACS ”.
