Monkey pox vaccine clinic offered today in Allentown; limited stock available – The Morning Call

The Allentown Health Bureau is offering two clinics, including one today, to administer a limited amount of Jynneos monkeypox vaccine.

The second reception is on September 1. Both receptions will be held from 4 to 6 p.m.

The monkeypox vaccine is administered in two doses. The second dose will be given at the time the person receives the first vaccine.

To be eligible for the vaccine, people must fall into one of the following categories:

• Gay, bisexual or other men who have sex with men and/or transgender, gender non-conforming or gender non-binary people aged 18 and over who have had multiple (2+) or anonymous sexual partners in the past 14 days

One of the following criteria must also be met:

• Know or suspect they may have contracted monkeypox or another STI in the past 14 days
• Newly diagnosed STIs including gonorrhea, chlamydia, early syphilis, or HIV in the past 3 months
• Attended an event, met a sex partner(s) through online applications or social media platforms, or exchanged money or other goods/services for sex
• They have a medical condition that may increase their risk of developing severe disease if infected with the monkeypox virus, such as HIV or another disease that weakens their immune system, or they have a history of atopic dermatitis or eczema
• Get pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV
• Sex workers of any sexual orientation or gender identity

Every day, 30 receptions are held in polyclinics – a total of 60 first vaccines. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the Allentown Health Office at 610-437-7760 ext. 0. Once all entry slots are filled, names will be added to a waiting list for future availability.
