Montgomery County receives $3.5 million from Pennsylvania Crime and Delinquency Commission

NORRISTOWN — Montgomery County has received $3.57 million in grants from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, state officials announced.

The $3,573,865 awarded by the Montgomery County Commissioners will pay salaries and benefits for a number of positions, including a prosecutor, two detectives, a trial assistant, a criminal intelligence analyst and an investigator in the Bureau of Criminal Identification. The money also goes towards the purchase of mobile phones and forensic microscopes.

The District Attorney and the Juvenile Probation Office received $718,339 and $262,957 respectively in state funding.

The funds were part of an announcement of $7.8 million in total funding announced earlier this week by state Sen. Amanda Cappelletti, D-17th Dist. She represents constituents in Delaware and Montgomery counties.

“Safety and security are integral to the success of our communities,” Cappelletti said in a statement. “I applaud PCCD for providing funding to organizations in Montgomery and Delaware counties that are dedicated to helping our vulnerable populations and equipping our communities with the tools and resources they need to succeed.”

The municipality of Norristown received $229,000 to purchase and install surveillance cameras, video monitors and recordings, according to Cappelletti’s office. Additional funds were allocated for “communication and support needs”.

A number of other Montgomery County organizations have received funding from the state agency. The programs focused on several initiatives, including nonprofit security, local law enforcement support, gun violence investigations, women’s reentry services, and children’s rights.

Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency funds have been distributed to the following Montgomery County organizations:

• $75,000 for Judith Creed Horizons for Independence, Bryn Mawr

• $24,814 for the Temple of the Brotherhood of Brit Achim, King of Prussia

• $25,000 to Congregation Beth Am Israel, Penn Valley

• $40,000 for the Kaiserman Jewish Community Center, Wynnewood

• $108,419 for Yeshiva Kahelet, Merion

• $99,916 for Family Services of Montgomery County, Eagleville

• $47,000 for Montgomery County Child Advocacy Center, East Norriton Township

• $303,664 for Victim Services Center of Montgomery County Inc., Norristown

• $81,428 for the Women’s Center of Montgomery County, Colmar
