The North Penn boys cross country team battled for the District 1-3A title Friday morning at Lehigh University.

Led by ninth-place freshman Justin Landis, the Knights scored 122 points to beat fellow state qualifiers Pencress (166), Unionville (195), Haverford Township (210), Lower Merion (246) and Council Rock North (289).

The Knights played well and tight, placing all five scorers in the top 45. Landis set the pace with a time of 15 minutes, 47.3 seconds, followed by teammates Achilles Shui (13th, 15:56.1), Sachith Mirialkar (22nd, 16:00.6), Matthew Landis (33 -th, 16:14.1) and Colin Fisher (45th, 16:21.5).

North Penn coach Mike Werner said, “I’m very proud of the boys’ performance today. It was a total team effort against incredibly strong First District teams. Congratulations to the remaining five team qualifiers and 30 individual qualifiers and good luck in the first district at States.”

In a huge 3A race, Hatborough-Horsham’s Brian Cicola captured individual gold, crossing the finish line in 15:01.3.

Other state qualifiers included Upper Dublin’s Matt Castronouvo (10th) and Gus Platt (11th), Souderton Area’s James Kuduk (12th), Aidan Kearns (19th) and Aiden Maue (28th) , as well as Owen Donagher of Central Bucks West (18th). .

Also earning their ticket to state were Wissahickon’s Matthew Winkowski (29th) and Brandon Tatto (35th), Cheltenham’s William Edgar (48th) and Methacton’s Evander Lackman (52nd).

Mount St. Joe’s Ella Woelke captured district gold by winning the 3A girls race in 17:38.7.

Woelke edged out Haverford’s Olivia Cheslak for first place.

Other state qualifiers included Hatboro-Horsham’s Lillian Dicola (seventh) and Emily Simcoe (9th), Pennridge’s Ashley Landis (11th) and Nora Ritting (22nd), William Tennant’s Savannah Ziman (20th) and Upper Dublin’s Amelia Pastor (40th ). ).

In the 2A boys, Lower Moreland’s Jack Becker won gold in 15:59.2, joined at states by teammate Vincent Frankino (sixth).

Jenkintown put together another great performance to win the Class A team title, led by first-place finisher Oliver Michell in 15:21.3.

The Drakes went one-two-three with Jesse Patterson and Denis Thulin going second and third.

John Byler was fourth for Jenkintown and Simon Kimball 23rd.

Doc’s tandem of Daniel Ringenberg (9th) and Aaron Sensenig (16th) is also headed to the state meet.

The Lower Moreland girls were first in Class 2A.

The Lions had two first-place finishes led by Amelia Ogawa (19:15) and Siri Hellenbrand (19:36.7).

Kennedy Durand (15th), Anna Mazick (20th) and Molly Moniz (23rd) also helped the Lion cause.

Pope John Paul II’s Mary Kate Zollers (sixth), Gwynedd Mercy Academy’s Sarah Hoke (10th) and Springfield-Monk’s Ella Walsh (13th) are also headed to Hershey.

Jenkintown’s Hannah Nelson won the Class A girls gold in 20:58.7.

Doc’s Marlize Giesbrecht (fourth), Celeste Derstin (sixth) and Bobbi Jo Dodds (seventh) are also Hershey-bound, as is Jenkintown’s Maeve Bellew (20th).
