November 17 – The Great American Smokeout

Nicotine Free Northwestern Pennsylvania and the Erie County Health Department have teamed up with the Erie Otters, local universities and Northwestern Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy to promote Great American No Smoke Day. The Great American Smokeout is a day that we hope will encourage people to quit smoking and vaping for a day in the hope that it will help them quit for life.

All events will raise public awareness of the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use, hosted by the Erie County Health Department and Nicotine Free Northwest Pennsylvania, an effort of several tobacco control organizations in 13 Northwest counties. Pennsylvania Health District.

The Otters will feature on the scoreboard during home games of the 2022-2023 season. anti-vaping/tobacco video and will host TRU (Tobacco Control Unit) groups (the state’s 12-18 age group) at an upcoming Otters game to promote the health hazards of tobacco and vaping.

A table will be set up at the entrance to the arena where people can sign pledges to quit smoking and vape, and enter a drawing to win a gift card. In addition, youth are invited to participate in the Great American Smokeout Video Contest, which has been sent to all middle and high schools in Erie County. Videos in this contest will be voted on and the winning video will be played during the Otters game on December 9th.

Gannon University, Pa. Berend and Northwestern Pennsylvania University Academy will also set up tables on their campuses for the Great American Smokeout on Nov. 17. There will be information on how to quit smoking and vaping, as well as pledges to quit at the tables.
