At least one person sustained serious injuries from a malfunctioning firework during the Stadium of Fire performance at Provo’s Fourth of July festival on Thursday.

KSL reporters on the scene indicated that there were additional injuries, but one individual, who was hit in the face, was transported to the hospital.

Several people were struck by fireworks in the east section of the crowd at Lavell Edwards Stadium. Video footage captured the fireworks launching into the air before descending and hitting multiple points in the crowd.

As the aircraft prepared for a flyover during the performance, hundreds of spectators began shouting for the show to stop.

The festival was paused just before the Jonas Brothers were set to perform, and the stands where the fireworks had struck were cleared. The show was halted for over 20 minutes before it resumed.
