Abolishing the long-standing opposition to most abortions, U.S. Senator Bob Casey said Tuesday he would vote for a bill that legalizes abortion across the country.
In a statement, Casey said he would vote for the Senate to discuss the Women’s Health Act, and “support the bill if there is a vote on final adoption in the future.”
“In the nearly three months since the Senate last voted on the Women’s Health Act, circumstances around the entire abortion debate have changed,” Casey said. “In light of the leaked draft Supreme Court decision overturning Rowe v. Wade, and subsequent reports that Republicans in the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate will enact a nationwide six-week ban, the real question at the moment is: Do you strongly support ban on abortion? During my tenure in public office, I have never voted for such a ban and I do not support it. “
Casey has always opposed abortion, except in cases of rape, incest or saving a mother’s life.
