The United Way of Adams County company starts its campaign for 2011-2012 on Saturday, September 24, with Care Day. Volunteers will share their time and talents with local agencies, implementing projects for which nonprofits never find the time or resources. More importantly, it gives our donors the opportunity to see for themselves the impact of their UWAC gifts.

At the same time, as workplace campaigns are taking place across the county, region and country to raise as much as possible for our partners and initiatives, we want to remind county residents “please give back where you live”.

65% of our workforce travels daily to Harrisburg, York, Chambersburg, Hagerstown, Frederick, DC, Baltimore and everywhere in between. Sending your contributions the United Way home is vital to the success of our service providers in helping your friends and neighbors – the provision of services is determined by your place of residence, not the place where you contribute.

UWAC understands that many passengers invest in United Way through their workplace companies; unfortunately, most do not send their gifts home. You have the choice to send your gift to where you live.

UWAC helps your friends and neighbors and makes a difference in people’s lives. We help children succeed and be prepared to learn, strengthen and support families, promote independence and well-being, and provide a safety net for the most vulnerable.

Remember: please indicate where you live when filling out this year’s mortgage card, and thank you for your generous support. This will make a difference to service providers here in Adams County.

Katie Nelson is the Chief Professional Officer of the United Way of Adams County.
