Police Reports, August 25, 2022

The following information comes from police reports and court records.
Dog bite: On Aug. 15, around 7:30 p.m., state police were called to a report of a dog bite on a child on Upper Beechwood Avenue in Foster. The child was riding a bicycle when a neighbor’s dog got out from under the fence and bit her on the right calf. The child was taken to the hospital with a stab wound. Lynn Zerbe, 51, Pottsville, was cited. A traffic citation was issued through the Tremont District Magistrate’s office.
Fire: On Aug. 13, around 3:50 p.m., firefighters responded to a two-alarm house fire at 725 W. Market St., Orwigsburg. Firefighters found the back of the building on fire, with flames spreading to the second and third floors. Crews made an interior attack on the second floor, but were forced to evacuate due to deteriorating conditions inside. After crews extinguished the bulk of the fire on the second and third floors, fire crews returned to the building to finish extinguishing the fire. About 50 firefighters from the Orwigsburg area responded to the call. The state fire marshal conducted an investigation and determined that the fire started near garbage cans near the home. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. There was no criminal activity involved in this investigation. The damage is estimated at at least 150,000 dollars. Three occupants were evicted. There was no damage.
Failure: On July 31 at 8:00 p.m., Schuylkill Haven State Police responded to a crash in Branch Township. Scott Killian, 31, of Pottsville, was driving on Route 209 and was attempting to make a left turn onto Phoenix Park Road. Killian drove into a grassy area along the side of the road, crashing into a fence and the concrete steps of a house. Killian then left without notifying the police or the property owner. The police found the car and charged Killian with several violations.
Failure: On July 29 at approximately 1:45 p.m., State Police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident at South Fourth and East Thompson Streets in Tower City. Lindsay Graff, 44, Williamstown, and Rodney Copenhaver, 61, Tower City, were driving on 4th Street. As Copenhaver approached the intersection, he signaled a left turn. Graeff attempted to pass him on the left, thinking Copenhaver had his hazard lights on, and crashed into Copenhaver’s pickup truck. Both vehicles sustained minor damage.
Failure: On July 16, around 2:30 p.m., State Police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Main Street in Landingville. Mark Arnold, 56, New Ringgold, was driving down Main Street when his 1937 Chevrolet Hot Rod developed transmission failure and accelerated out of control. Arnold hit the fence at the Landingville Community Playground. There was minor damage to the hot rod.
Failure: On July 16, around 5 p.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven responded to an accident on Oak Grove Road at Trumbo Road in Pine Grove Township. Sajid Kayu, 43, Uniondale, NY, failed to yield to oncoming traffic and struck a vehicle driven by Shane Dinger, 32, Pine Grove. Both cars sustained minor damage. Kayou was taken to Geisinger St. Luke’s in Orwgsburg with minor injuries.
Theft: State police in Schuylkill Haven are investigating the theft of a Rigid press tool used for copper piping. It is valued at approximately $2,100. The theft occurred sometime between July 13 around 1 a.m. and July 26 around 1:50 p.m. in North Manheim Township.
Criminal mischief: State Police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating an incident on Orchard Street in Auburn that occurred between July 15 at 5:30 p.m. and July 16 at 11:50 a.m. Someone used a BB/Pellet to damage a 2017 Hyundai Elantra and a 2004 Hyundai. Santa Fe.
Theft: On July 14, around 9 a.m., state police at Schuylkill Haven received a report of a theft from a Pine Grove man. Someone used his Hidden River Credit Union debit card to withdraw $1,646 from his account between July 14th and August 10th.
