Prince Jackson still thinks about his father Michael “every day.”

The pop icon died in June 2009 at the age of 50, and Prince admits his father is never far from his thoughts.

The prince explained: “I think about him every day.

“There are many complexities in life that I think parents teach their children [about], so there is some confusion without it. And also, it’s a great legacy to uphold, you know? It would be great if I knew how he would like it preserved. So I think about him every day.”

Prince, 25, still enjoys listening to his father’s music.

And he believes that Michael’s personality shines through in his tunes.

Prince told PEOPLE, “There is so much of his personality, so much of himself, in his music. And what I probably miss the most about him, I’ve talked to someone about it, is his hands. He had very strong, very large hands. Firm, but delicate. It’s hard to explain.”

The Jackson family is celebrating 40 years since the release of Michael’s best-selling album, Thriller.

And Prince has fond memories of the first viewing of the iconic “Thriller” video.

He said: “The first time I watched it my dad told me it was real and then he started to transform. So it was very traumatic, but afterwards – if I could watch it and not be afraid – he would tell me about it, and I would see the making of Thriller from his point of view, you know? And it’s just amazing.”

Prince is now working on bringing Thriller to the top of the charts.

He explained: “The single never went to number one. So our goal, we’re trying to do the Thriller competition right now, is between October 28th and I think November 1st or 2nd.”
