Queen Elizabeth will not take the royal salute at Trooping the Color | Celebrities

Queen Elizabeth will not be hosting the Royal Salute at the Trooping the Color for the first time this year.

The 96-year-old royal – who has suffered from mobility problems in recent months – is historically celebrating his official birthday on June 2, welcoming his personal troops, a home division at a cavalry guard parade, but next month’s ceremony is scheduled for Prince Charles, William and Princess Anne to go on parade as colonels of the Welsh Guard, the Irish Guard and the Blue and Royal respectively.

Traditionally during the ceremony after the cavalry parade the queen is greeted with a royal salute before the inspection of troops, and although her children and grandson are ready to join and attend on her behalf, the Sunday Times reports, she still hopes to attend some ceremonies.

One of the plans under consideration envisages that the Queen will travel in a carriage from Buckingham Palace to briefly inspect the troops before leaving for the rest of the ceremony and then reappear at the traditional moment on the balcony with her family, and Charles , William and Anne will represent her. on the site.

Another option is for the monarch not to inspect the troops at all, but simply to appear on the balcony at the end of the ceremony.

This year, the 86-year-old Duke of Kent – a colonel of the Scottish Guard – will not ride the parade.

As head of the armed forces, the Queen hosted a royal salute every year of her reign, except 1955, when the ceremony was canceled due to a railroad strike.

Meanwhile, the Queen has no plans to appoint a new Royal Colonel of the Grenadier Guard to the ceremony to pity Prince Andrew, who returned to the role along with his other military titles in January over a sexual assault case in the United States. – any embarrassment.

Andrew took over the role in 2017 after the Duke of Edinburgh had previously held the post for 42 years.

Instead, Major General Roland Walker, a former commander, will represent the Grenadier Guard.
