Indy spoiled the Reading Royals’ home game on Saturday night.

The Royals conceded two goals in the second period and were unable to recover in a 3-1 loss to the Fuel in ECHL action at Santander Arena.

After a scoreless first period, Indy scored early and late in the second. Forward Ian Mandat scored on a power play 35 seconds into the period and forward Mitchell Hoelscher netted a low-handed shot with 1:03 left in the second.

Reading’s lone goal came between the pair from Fuel, with forward Ivan Mongo scoring on the power play midway through the period. The Royals finished the night 1-for-7 on the power play.

Reading trailed 2-1 for most of the third period until Indy defenseman Keoni Texeira scored an empty-net goal with one second left. Teixeira had a goal and an assist.

Royals goaltender Nolan Meyer made 21 shots and made 19 saves. Reading outshot the Fuel 29-22.

The two teams will wrap up the two-game series on Sunday at 3:00 PM at the Santander Arena. The Royals continue to look for their first win of the season after losing their first four games.
