Reynolds’ home run in the park is not enough to raise pirates above the cardinals

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Paul Goldschmidt went 4-5 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals over the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 on Saturday night.
Goldschmidt extended his streak to 14 games and his streak at base to 28. His two-round double completed a second inning of four rounds.
Brian Reynolds did a home run in the Pirate Park, and Yoshi Tsutsuga did it twice. Both finished with two strokes – Reynolds also doubled.
The widely advertised prospect of St. Louis Matthew Liberator was on one of winning his debut league in the major leagues. The left-hander allowed four runs and seven strokes in 4 2/3 innings, simultaneously knocking out three and two moves.
Liberator was recalled from Triple-A Memphis before the game.
Drew Verhagen (1-0) made 2 1/3 of the half without points as a result of Liberator in his first since 2019 victory in the major league with Detroit. VerHagen has spent the last two seasons in Japan.
Ryan Helsley worked a perfect ninth for his second save.
Tommy Edman added two punches as the Cardinals had 10.
Jose Quintana (1-2) was scored for five runs – two earned – and seven strokes in 3 2/3 innings. He crossed out four and passed one.
In his previous four starts, Quintana has given up a total of three runs in 23 innings.
The Cardinal broke a zero draw with 4 second races. Error allocating third base Ke’Bryan Hayes allowed in the first run, and Edmund Sosa hit an RBI single before Goldschmidt lined up his double run to the right.
Tsutsugo’s double in deep center at the bottom of the half led the Pirates to 4-2.
Edman distinguished himself in the Cardinals series in the fourth for the first of his two strikes, but the Liberators failed to make it through the fifth when Reynolds inside the parker made a one-shot game with a score of 5-4.
Reynolds repulsed a drive that cut off a fence in the left field and then rolled back to the left center when scored while standing. It was the first Homer in the park for the Pirates after the 2018 Starling Marte was in Milwaukee, and the first home for Pittsburgh after Pedro Alvarez in 2013.
Pittsburgh lost for the fourth time in five games.
BEECH ACCOUNTING
The Liberator was the first Cardinals pitcher to make his Premier League debut as a starter against the Pirates after Alan Benes in 1995 and the first left-hander after Ray Sadeca in 1960.
The Liberator also became the seventh Cardinals player to make his Premier League debut this season.
CLIMBING THE CHARTER
Albert Pujols, appointed striker in St. Louis, played in his 2992nd career game. This tied Willie Mace to ninth place in major league history.
RASTER MIA
The Cardinals selected Jake Walsh’s RHP in Memphis to open a spot on the 26-man list for Liberatore. RHP TJ Zeuch was designed to clean the place for 40 people.
BRIGHT AND EARLY
Sunday’s finale of the three-game series will begin at 11:35 a.m. to host Peacock, NBC’s streaming service. It will be the earliest game in Pittsburgh since the Pirates hosted the Los Angeles Dodgers at 10:05 a.m. on July 4, 1987 at Three Rivers Stadium.
