Pennsylvania’s 52-year-old lieutenant John Fetterman is undergoing a procedure Tuesday to implant a pacemaker and defibrillator, his company said in a press release.
Fetterman, a leading Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in the primary vote Tuesday, suffered a stroke last week and has since been hospitalized. He said the stroke was caused by a clot from him the heart is in the “A-fib rhythm” for too long.». Fetterman said doctors were able to remove the blood clot and cancel the stroke.
“John Fetterman is going to undergo a standard procedure to implant a pacemaker with a defibrillator,” his company said in a statement on Tuesday. “It should be a short procedure that will help protect his heart and eliminate the root cause of the stroke, atrial fibrillation by regulating the heart rate and rhythm.”
In a photo submitted by the election campaign on Tuesday, Fetterman was seen voting in an emergency absentee ballot from his hospital ward. He will not be able to attend the rally on his election night.
