The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg participated in a pre-taped concert series filmed on Saturday at Rosie’s Dog Beach in Long Beach. This performance will be featured in the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics, airing on Sunday, August 11, starting at noon. It will also mark the handover to the 2028 Los Angeles Games, with several events scheduled to take place in Long Beach. The concert will air in primetime on NBC at 7 p.m.
All participating artists are California natives, including H.E.R., who will sing the U.S. national anthem live at Stade de France, as confirmed by LA28 Chairperson Casey Wasserman.
Wasserman described the event as a major milestone, saying, “This is the biggest moment in LA28 history to date, as the Olympic flag passes from Paris to LA. We are thrilled to feature the very best of LA with local artists and are grateful to Billie, H.E.R., the Chili Peppers, and Snoop for their collaboration on what will be an incredible show, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come in 2028.”
Over the weekend, passersby noticed “No Parking” signs along Ocean Boulevard and a fenced-off area around Rosie’s Beach, which was decorated with banners, faux palm trees, and several “LA28” installations, including a crowned “LA28” sign with sand-sculpted dogs in a sphinx pose.
Some local residents speculated about the event’s purpose on Reddit, with one post suggesting it was for a commercial, while others noted that it appeared to be for the closing concert. A source familiar with the filming, who requested anonymity, confirmed it was indeed for the closing ceremonies.
Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson, currently in Paris with a delegation, encouraged people to tune in, writing on X (formerly Twitter), “Make sure you check out the #Paris2024 #Olympics closing ceremony.”
With less than four years until Los Angeles hosts the Olympics for the third time—its last Games were in 1984—it will also mark the city’s first time hosting the Paralympics.
