WILKES-BARRE — The Lucerne Foundation’s Benefit Forum was held Wednesday at the Woodlands Inn, where more than 30 local nonprofits made Shark Tank-style pitches to the foundation’s board for the chance to receive grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000.

Each year, local organizations gather at the Nonprofit Forum, sponsored by The Luzerne Foundation. Each organization is given five minutes to present its story and mission, and how it meets the needs of the community.

Nonprofits participating in the Forum work in seven areas served by the Foundation: arts and culture, education and scholarships, health and wellness, historic preservation and the environment, neighborhoods and community development, social services and youth issues.

The Foundation’s Grants Committee selects several non-profit organizations to receive grants after their presentations. Although not every organization can receive grants at the Forum, they all have an excellent opportunity to find new donors through The Luzerne Foundation’s network of foundations, organizations, individuals and other funds interested in their cause.

As part of the event, Times Leader Media Group will give away $10,000 from our “Book of Dreams” fund of the Lucerne Foundation during the forum.

We’ll tell you more about the forum online this afternoon and in Thursday’s edition of the Times Leader.
