The Rev. Herbert H. Lusk, former Philadelphia Eagle running back, pastor of Great Exodus Baptist Church and CEO of People for People, Inc., died on September 19 at the age of 69.
Today, Rev. Lusk’s family, through the Great Exodus Baptist Church, issued a statement confirming his death.
“It is with great sadness that the Lusk family announces the passing of our beloved husband and father, the Rev. Dr. Herbert H. Lusk II, on Monday, September 19, 2022, from earth to glory,” the family said in a statement.
“We praise God for the countless souls who now know Jesus and have been impacted by His 40 years of ministry and ministry in the great city of Philadelphia and around the world.”
City Council President Darrell Clark also released a statement on the death of Rev. Lusk.
“North Philadelphia and our city lost a true friend yesterday: Reverend Herb Lusk passed away,” Clark said. “From his early days as a running back for the Philadelphia Eagles and through his long career as pastor of the Great Exodus Baptist Church on North Broad Street, Reverend Lusk has always preached the universal truths of self-reliance and hard work. “
