Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen finalized the terms of their separation on the same day they filed for divorce.

The sports star, 45, and Gisele, 42, announced their split via social media posts on Friday (28.10.22) and a legal expert has now explained how their settlement was so simple.

Jacqueline Newman, a divorce attorney at Berkman Bottger Newman and Schein LLP, explained, “They have already reached a settlement agreement, which usually includes both financial and custody issues. By the time the application was filed, they already had custody, alimony, alimony was sorted out.”

Despite this, Newman – who is not related to either side – explained that a judge still has to approve the settlement.

She told PEOPLE, “Once the couple agrees on everything, the judge reviews the agreement and approves it.

“There are situations where judges reject an agreement, usually in child support situations. But this rarely happens, and usually when alimony appears to be skewed. But that’s obviously not the problem here.”

Gisele, who has 9-year-old Vivian and 12-year-old Benjamin with the NFL star, recently admitted they had “broken up”.

In a statement posted on social media, Gisele said: “The decision to end a marriage is never easy, but we have separated and while it is certainly difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and wish Tom always all the best.”

Meanwhile, Tom – who also has John, 15, with Bridget Moynahan – described their split as an amicable decision.

The sports star wrote on Instagram: “In recent days, my wife and I finalized our divorce from each other after 13 years of marriage. We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. We are blessed with beautiful and wonderful children who will continue to be the center of our world in every way. We will continue to work together as parents to always ensure they get the love and attention they deserve.”
