The barber shop is back, and the Atlantic Bay International District 19 Sweet Adelines is hosting its first full-time singing convention and competition since the COVID epidemic this weekend at Marriott Penn Square.

Before the start of the competition at 16.00 the participants gathered in Penn Square on Friday afternoon for a mass singing event.

Highlights of the event, which is open to the public (vaccination required), include a quartet contest, a choir contest, a boutique and a champions show.

Sweet Adelines International is a “women’s singing organization that seeks to promote female singers around the world through education, performance and competitions in the harmony of hairdressing and a cappella music,” the group said in a press release. Founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1945, it is one of the largest women’s singing organizations in the world with more than 20,000 members in choirs and quartets worldwide.

The nonprofit organization Sweet Adelines International, Atlantic Bay, Mountain Region 19, includes 22 choirs in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey and Delaware.
