West Virginia man accused of deliberately hitting Dairy Queen

WINFIELD, Virginia (AP) – In West Virginia, a man was accused of deliberately driving a car into a Dairy Queen restaurant and then attacking hospital staff, authorities said.
News reports that 40-year-old Casey Matthew Oxley was charged with attempted malicious assault, causing harm to paramedics and ambulance workers, reckless driving and other offenses after he crashed into a Dairy Queen in the Scott Depot community on Saturday night Putnam County.
State police said five officers were inside at the time of the crash, but they were safely evacuated. The dining room was closed for redevelopment. A gas main broke, and crews used white foam to keep the building from blazing, officials said.
According to officials, Oxley was taken to Thais Valley Hospital in Charleston Medical Center, where he attacked hospital staff and police had to physically detain him.
Oxley was in jail on Sunday. It was not immediately clear whether he had a lawyer to speak for him on the charges.
