What is open – and what is not – on Thanksgiving

Last year, stores, major retailers and fast food chains closed their doors on Thanksgiving because of the COVID-19 pandemic. And for the second year in a row most major retail chains and retail outlets will close their stores on Thursday.
Target announced Monday that its stores will no longer open on Thanksgiving – a move that began last year as a one-off due to the pandemic, but is now a constant change.
“What began as a temporary pandemic measure has become our new standard, recognizing our ability to fulfill the festive wishes of our guests both inside and outside the store,” Target CEO Brian Cornell said in a note to staff. , according to Associated Press.
Earlier this year Walmart announced that his stores will be closed on Thanksgiving, as a “thank you” to all his associates for their hard work during the pandemic, said Docona Smith, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Walmart US
Other major retailers, such as Best Buy, JCPenney and Kohl’s, have also announced they will be closed on Thanksgiving – instead urging customers to start this year’s Black Friday shopping online.
