Preakness Stakes is the second value of the Triple Crown and one of the main annual jumps. With millions of spectators tuned each year, this is the second largest race after the Kentucky Derby.

The first run in 1873, Preakness Stakes was named after a horse bred in New Jersey that won the Dinner Party Stakes on the track in the opening year, 1870.

Traditionally held on the third Saturday of May, Preakness Stakes features culture and competition.

At 1 3/16 miles – 1/16 miles shorter than the Kentucky Derby – this is the shortest of the Triple Crown races, which prefers speed and power. Preakness is also much more exclusive, it has a maximum of 14 horses.

The field, called the “Old Hill”, after a small slope on the backyard has become a favorite gathering place for both coaches and spectators, celebrates its 152nd anniversary. Since then, the hill has been leveled, but the name has remained and has become an integral part of the event’s heritage.
