Here’s a look at Jeffrey Dahmer ahead of the 10-episode run.
Who was Jeffrey Dahmer?
Jeffrey Dahmer was an American serial killer who killed seventeen men and boys between 1978 and 1991.
Dahmer was born in Milwaukee, but at the age of 6 moved with his parents to Doylestown, Ohio – a suburb of Akron. His brother David was born shortly after.
Although there are conflicting accounts of the Dahmer family’s family life, Jeffrey’s childhood was marked by his mother’s struggle with depression, his father’s preference for work, and frequent moves around the Akron area.
Did Jeffrey Dahmer suffer from alcoholism?
By the beginning of high school, Jeffrey regularly drank at school and became increasingly withdrawn, despite the fact that he maintained a penchant for pranks and earned a reputation as the class clown. He also came to terms with his gay sexuality.
Throughout high school, Geoffrey reportedly developed sexual fantasies that later included cannibalism and dissection, practices he learned in scientific talks from his father, a chemist.
Who was Jeffrey Dahmer’s first victim?
Three weeks after graduating from high school, Jeffrey Dahmer picked up a hitchhiker named Stephen Hicks, who became his first murder victim.
Over the next decade, Jeffrey bounced around a variety of backgrounds — including a brief stint as a student at Ohio State and in the U.S. Army — while falling deeper into alcoholism and eventually returning to Milwaukee to live with his grandmother.
When did Jeffrey Dahmer kill his second victim?
On November 20, 1987 – almost ten years after the Hicks murder – Jeffrey committed his second murder, which then sparked 15 more murders over a four-year period.
When was Jeffrey Dahmer caught?
On July 22, 1991, one of Jeffrey’s would-be victims ran from the house and flagged down the police who were nearby. The investigation found countless body parts and images of victims throughout his Milwaukee home.
Over the next two weeks, Dahmer confessed to all 17 murders – 16 in Milwaukee and one (Hicks) in Ohio. In 1992, he was convicted of 16 counts of murder – all of which served life in prison.
He was not charged with his first murder in Milwaukee, as he claimed to have no recollection of the murder, and prosecutors did not believe they could prove his involvement beyond a reasonable doubt.
Is Jeffrey Dahmer still alive?
After sentencing, Dahmer was transferred to the Columbia Correctional Facility in Portage, Wisconsin. Despite having concerns about his safety as a known serial killer, Dahmer was integrated into the general prison population.
Dahmer was murdered on November 28, 1994 by an inmate, two and a half years after his final conviction.
