NEW YORK (AP) — A completed documentary about the rapper formerly known as Kanye West has been shelved amid his recent many anti-Semitic statements.
MRC studio heads Modi Vichik, Asif Satchu and Scott Tenley announced in a note on Monday: “We cannot support any content that extends its platform.”
Ye was recently banned from posting on Twitter and Instagram due to anti-Semitic posts that the social media said violated their policies. He also suggested that slavery was a choice and called the COVID-19 vaccine “the mark of the beast.” Earlier this month, Ye was criticized for wearing a ‘White Lives Matter’ t-shirt to show his latest collection at Paris Fashion Week.
In their lengthy memo, Vicick, Satchu, and Tenley delve deep into the history of anti-Semitism.
“Kanye is a music producer and sampler. Last week, he sampled and remixed a classic tune that’s been on the charts for over 3,000 years, a lie about Jews being evil and conspiring to rule the world for their own gain. This song was performed a cappella in the days of the Pharaohs, Babylon and Rome, went acoustic with The Spanish Inquisition and the Russian Pale of Settlement, and Hitler took the song as electric. Now Kanye has helped usher it into the modern age,” they wrote.
Ye’s talent agency, CAA, also dropped him. Monday’s news and the canceled documentary came after UTA CEO Jeremy Zimmer condemned Ye in a company-wide memorandum condemning anti-Semitism. Ye was a client for a short time, but returned to CAA a year later.
Other people in Hollywood, including Ye’s wife Kim Kardashian and other members of her family, have also condemned the anti-Semitism. Demonstrators on an overpass in Los Angeles on Saturday unfurled a banner praising E.
