Henry Cavill ‘wasn’t ready’ to play James Bond | movies

Henry Cavill was “not ready” to play James Bond, despite being close to landing the coveted role.

The Man of Steel star made it through to the final round of auditions, with just him and Daniel Craig in the running for the role of 007, but Henry eventually lost out when Bond bosses chose the more experienced Layer Cake actor to play the super-spy in 2006. Casino Royale.

However, Henry is adamant that the producers made the right choice. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he explained: “They told me I was close. They told me it was final and that’s what they told me, it was just me and Daniel [Craig], and I was the younger option. Obviously they went with Daniel, and I think it was an amazing choice to go with Daniel.”

Henry went on to insist that he may not have played James Bond, adding: “I probably wasn’t ready at the time and I think Daniel has done an incredible job in the past films, so I’m happy that they made that choice.”

However, auditioning for the role of Bond and being passed over did Henry’s career no harm as he landed the role of Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel, cementing his status as a leading man.

Looking back, Henry has no regrets about his failed Bond audition, adding: “It was a fun adventure at the time and definitely gave me a boost in my career. That was a key element.”

Henry went on to play Superman in a series of later films and is believed to be in the next Man of Steel film.
