Lansdale Catholic wins over Cardinal O’Hara – there are reports online

AMBLER — Lansdale Catholic has sent its seniors in style, while youngsters like Yeboa Cobbold provide a dynamic glimpse of LC’s future.

“He’s a big, multi-purpose player for us,” Crusaders coach Dom D’Addona said of the freshman, who played multiple roles Saturday night. “We can snap the ball to him, throw the ball to him, he can come back, he plays defense. It’s going to be a pleasure coaching him for the next three years, that’s for sure.”

Cobbold caught a 13-yard touchdown pass at quarterback and ran 83 yards for another score to help lead the way to a convincing 47-18 victory over Cardinal O’Hara in a Philadelphia Catholic League Blue Division game in a chilly Wissahickon.

“We did it for the seniors,” said Cobbold, who rushed for 102 yards, received 94 yards and nearly added 6 yards on defense. “It’s a big win for us.”

The Crusaders finished a remarkable season at 7-3 overall, including 4-3 in PCL Blue. LC narrowly missed the postseason, but went 0-9 in 2021 to make a big turnaround and set the table for what should be a promising 2023.

“Big momentum going into next year,” D’Addona said. “We’re going to have a great offseason and hopefully make the playoffs.”

The Crusader offense continued all evening, scoring three straight goals in the first half and four straight runs in the second half.

Senior Efrain Quiles was a force to be reckoned with, gaining 47 yards on six carries and rushing for a 13-yard TD for the game’s leading score.

Senior Josh Brown was a strong presence on the line of scrimmage, and on defense he had multiple tackles in the Lion backfield and had a tackle for loss. He also nearly scored a TD as a runner.

Senior Matt Dailey had a pair of catches for 20 yards and senior Gia Zito had a 13-yard touchdown run, one of seven times the Crusaders reached the end zone.

“The kids were determined to finish 7-3 and they practiced that way and came out and performed that way,” D’Addona said. “It was an attitude game for us. We wanted to go out and find out what we could do, which we did. We wanted to send the seniors off on a high note, and that’s what we did.”

Cobbold’s TD pass to Jack Tshetiak opened the scoring at 6-0. Czetiak, a sophomore, caught three balls – two for scores – for 29 yards.

“We were just getting the ball to our guys,” Cobbold said of the offense.

Jakai Streeter capped off a sensational sophomore season with a 23-yard run to make it 13-0 in the second quarter. Streeter rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Moments later, Cobbold found the lane and broke free for an 83-yard TD and 20-0 LC.

“The backbone of the offensive line,” Cobbold said. “We even had our quarterback (Cole Meehan) blocking. We all did our jobs tonight, we all did what we were supposed to do.”

Both quarterbacks played well for their respective teams, with Meehan completing 11 of 18 passes for 176 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, and John Weld completing 16 of 31 targets for 213 yards and three touchdowns.

Welde hit Thomas Dugan for a 15-yard field goal and connected with Jeremiah Coleman for a 35-yarder to cut the deficit to 20-12 at halftime.

But the third quarter was all LC.

Streeter scampered in from five yards out, Meehan hit sophomore Jack Tshetiak for 13 yards, and Meehan later connected with Zito for his 13-yard touchdown to make it 40-12 LC.

The Lions (1-9 overall, 1-6 PCL Blue) scored again, with Welde hitting Gavin Lesage from 18 yards out and then Quiles turned on LC for the final blip on the scoreboard.
