Nets owner Joe Tsai slams Kyrie Irving for controversial tweet – Reading Eagle

Nets owner Joe Tsai slammed his star point guard Kyrie Irving for tweet which shared an anti-Semitic film.

Tsai released a statement Friday night on Twitter.

“I’m disappointed that Kyrie seems to be supporting a movie based on a book full of anti-Semitic misinformation,” Tsai tweeted. “I want to sit down and make sure he understands that this is painful for all of us, and as a person of faith, it is wrong to promote hatred based on race, ethnicity or religion.”

Irving shared a film called Hebrews Are Negroes: Wake Up Black America. According to Rolling Stone, “the video is based on a virulently anti-Semitic book that claims that ‘many prominent high-ranking Jews’ have ‘confessed’ to ‘worshipping'[ing] Satan or Lucifer.”

The 30-year-old point guard is no stranger to controversy. Irving posted the clip on Twitter in September Alex Jones promotes conspiracy theories and sat out most of the Nets’ home games last season because of a reluctance to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Nets organization also released a statement condemning Irving’s latest tweet.

“The Brooklyn Nets strongly condemn and do not tolerate the promotion of hate in any form,” the team said Friday. “We believe that in these situations, our first action should be an open, honest dialogue. We thank those, including the ADL (Anti-Defamation League), who have been supportive during this time.”

Irving didn’t second-guess his decision to share the film.
