San Francisco, October 28: South Korean tech giant Samsung’s first-ever Galaxy Fold model is reportedly no longer receiving Android updates for its devices.
According to Gizmochina, the Galaxy Fold was released in 2019 with Android 9 Pie after many delays before its final release. Since then, the tech giant has introduced several updates and its first sophisticated device now runs on Android 12 OS. In the last 24 hours, Samsung has sold over 1.2 million Galaxy devices worth Rs 1,000 crore in India.
It looks like it’s the end of the road because Samsung won’t be providing a major OS update for the Galaxy Fold. This means that the device will not receive the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 update.
Samsung usually offers three years of OS updates and another year of security patches, but this appears to be the only flagship smartphone from the company that hasn’t received any updates since Android 12, according to the report. Samsung appoints third-generation heir Lee Jae-yong as executive chairman.
However, the Galaxy Fold will no longer be able to receive major upgrades because the three-year update cycle has ended. The 2021 and 2022 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip phones will still be eligible for the Android 14 update next year.
But this does not necessarily mean that there will be no more software updates for that particular device. At least a year remains for security patches and updates, the report added.
