Kanye West’s Twitter account has been restored.

The 45-year-old rap star was suspended from the platform earlier this month after he posted an anti-Semitic tweet, but new Twitter owner Elon Musk confirmed that Kanye’s account had been reinstated.

The 51-year-old businessman, who recently acquired Twitter in a $44 billion deal, wrote on the microblogging platform: “Twitter will form a content moderation board with a wide variety of viewpoints.

“No major decisions on content or account recovery will be made until this board meets. (sic)”

In response, an account called “Republicans Against Trumpism” asked the new Twitter boss: “So why did you reinstate Kanye West’s account already? Twitter should not be a platform to spew racism and antisemitism (sic).”

Elon, who is a friend of the controversial rap star, explained: “Ye’s account was reinstated by Twitter before the acquisition. They did not consult me or inform me. (yes)”

Earlier this month, Kim Kardashian – Kanye’s ex-wife – expressed her disapproval of his anti-Semitic posts.

The 42-year-old star wrote on social media that hate speech is “never acceptable” or “forgivable”, although she did not mention the rap star by name.

Kim, who along with Kanye has North, nine, Saint, six, Chicago, four, and Psalm, three, tweeted: “I stand with the Jewish community and call for the horrific violence and hateful rhetoric towards them to come to an immediate end.”

Earlier, several members of Kim’s family – including mom Kris Jenner and her sisters Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner – all expressed their support for the Jewish community following Kanye’s controversial comments.

In a statement posted on their separate Instagram stories, they said: “I stand with my Jewish friends and the Jewish people.”
