Adele is “too lazy” and uninterested in Broadway to earn EGOT status | Celebrities

Adele admits it’s unlikely she’ll reach EGOT status because she’s not into Broadway.

The 34-year-old singer is just one Tony away from a full slate (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) after she added an Emmy to her Grammys and Oscars in September.

At the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, Adele won the Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Taped) gong for her CBS special, Adele One Night Only.

And while she admits she’s happy to agree with EGO, since Broadway has never interested her and she’s too “lazy” to do two shows a day, there is one role she wouldn’t mind doing, Rose from Gypsy.

At an event to launch her new music video for ‘I Drink Wine’, she told fans: ‘I saw [Gypsy] in London and I really enjoyed playing the mom in it. She has a song [Rose’s Turn] when she said, “I wanted to do all this,” and she’s jealous of her own daughter, and she’s very excited about it. One time she was just snarky, which I could nail.’

The “Hello” hitmaker joked that she might take her delayed Las Vegas residency to Broadway and cheat.

She continued: “I don’t think I’ve seen enough [Broadway] as an adult to know if I want to do it. I was wondering if it was just a matter of taking the show from Vegas to Broadway and winning a Tony? I actually prefer the sound of the EGO to the EGOT. EGO is fun. But never say never. If I move to New York, I’ll be bored, I’ll be on that stage in a heartbeat.”

Noting music legend Bette Midler, she added: “I do know Bette Midler, who is a big flex, right? Because she is one of my idols. She said, “You’ll never be able to keep up with the Broadway schedule.” Because I’m so lazy. I’m so notoriously lazy… I wouldn’t be able to do matinees and all that. I don’t have enough stamina for that.”

Adele quipped she “officially has an EGO” after being honored with an Emmy.
